10 Most Important Chapters for JEE Main 2027: Physics, Chemistry & Maths

Preparing for JEE Main is not easy, especially when you look at the syllabus as a whole. There are so many chapters across Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics that it is quite normal to feel confused about where to start or which chapters deserve more attention.

If you are preparing for JEE Main 2027, one useful approach is to identify the chapters that have been asked frequently in previous papers and give them a little more priority.

So, in this article, I have listed 10 important chapters from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, along with their approximate weightage and difficulty level.

One thing I want to make clear before we start: this is not a list of “30 chapters that will guarantee you a particular percentile.” JEE Main does not follow a fixed chapter-wise pattern. The distribution can change from shift to shift. Think of this list as a way to prioritise your preparation, not as a replacement for the complete syllabus.

10 Most Important Physics Chapters for JEE Main

Physics can actually become a very scoring subject once your concepts and formulas are clear. The problem is that many students either memorise formulas without understanding them or spend too much time on difficult questions before mastering the basics.

Here are some Physics chapters that deserve extra attention.

Chapters –

Electrostatics
Current Electricity
Magnetic Effects of Current & Magnetism
Semiconductor Electronics
Modern Physics
Units & Dimensions and Error Analysis
KTG and Thermodynamics
EMI and AC
NLM and Work, Power, Energy
Ray Optics and Wave Optics

Additionally, I recommend having basic knowledge of Mechanics, which will help more in the exam.
These are approximate historical trends, not fixed NTA weightages.

10 Most Important Chemistry Chapters for JEE Main

Chemistry is a little different from Physics and Maths because you need a mixture of concepts, calculations and memorisation for it.
You cannot prepare all three parts in exactly the same way.

Chapters –

Mole Concept and Redox Reactions
Equilibrium
Thermodynamics
Coordination Compounds
Electrochemistry
GOC and Isomerism
Hydrocarbons
Biomolecules
Chemical Kinetics
P-block Elements and d and f- block Elements

I’m not including more chapters from Organic Chemistry, as many students find it difficult, including me. So if you’re good at it, then I’ll suggest completing the full syllabus in Organic Chemistry.

10 Most Important Mathematics Chapters for JEE Main

Mathematics can be especially time-consuming in JEE Main. You might know how to solve a question but still lose marks because the calculation takes too long.

That is why Maths preparation should involve a lot of time for Practice, rather than just completing the lectures.

Chapters –

Sequence & Series
Coordinate Geometry
Vector Algebra
3D Geometry
Matrices & Determinants
P’nC and Probability
Complex Numbers
Limits, Continuity & Differentiability
Integral Calculus
Application of Derivatives

Now here’s also a catch. If you’re good at Coordinate Geometry, then complete all chapters. But if you’re not, then at least understand the basics. And the same thing goes with P’nC and Probability. Understand the basics of these chapters if you’re thinking you’re not good at these. So that if any easy questions appear in your exam from any of these chapters, then you should be able to confirm those marks.

What Should You Do After Completing These Chapters?

This is where a lot of students make several mistakes.
They finish a chapter, tick it off their checklist and immediately move to the next chapter.
But finishing a chapter is not the same as being prepared for JEE questions from that chapter.

A simple approach is:
Learn → Practice → Analyse → Revise → Test

  • Learn the concepts
Understand the chapter first. Don’t worry about solving difficult questions immediately.
  • Solve PYQs
Once your basics are clear, start solving JEE Main previous-year questions.PYQs will show you what NTA actually asks instead of what you imagine it might ask.
  •  Analyse your mistakes
If you get a question wrong, don’t simply see the solution and move on.
    Ask yourself:
Did I not know the concept?
    Did I forget a formula?
    Was it a calculation mistake?
    Did I misunderstand the question?
Did I run out of time?
Knowing the reason behind a mistake is much more useful than simply knowing the correct answer.
  • Revise
Keep revisiting old chapters. Otherwise, you may find yourself learning the same formulas again two months later.
  • Take tests
Start with chapter-wise tests and gradually move towards mixed tests and full-length JEE Main mocks.
This is especially important for Mathematics, where speed and selection of questions can make a big difference.

Can You Prepare for JEE Main by Studying Only These Chapters?

This is probably the most important question.
I would highly not recommend you doing that. If you still have enough time to complete the syllabus, then complete your whole syllabus. These chapters are meant to help you decide what to prioritise, especially when you are short on time or trying to organise your preparation.
They are not a guarantee that you will get a certain number of questions from these chapters in your exam. NTA is unpredictable.

JEE Main questions can come from different parts of the syllabus, and the distribution can change between shifts.

So, if you have several months available, use these chapters as your high-priority list while continuing with the rest of the syllabus.

If you have very little time left, however, prioritising high-frequency and relatively manageable chapters can be a more practical strategy than trying to study everything superficially.

Final Thoughts

There is no secret list of chapters that can replace consistent JEE preparation.

If you are starting your preparation, don’t get too caught up in calculating exactly how many questions from each chapter might come. First build your concepts, then solve PYQs and gradually improve your speed and accuracy.

If you are short on time, use this list to decide where to put your extra effort.

And if you still have enough time before JEE Main 2027, don’t limit yourself to these 30 chapters. Complete the whole syllabus, but give these chapters the attention they deserve.

The simplest preparation cycle is:
Concepts → PYQs → Mistake Analysis → Revision → Tests → Repeat

JEE Main is not about studying everything once. It is about studying, forgetting, revising, practising and slowly getting better at the same things until they become familiar.
So don’t just chase the number of chapters you have completed.

I’ll update you guys when the official Syllabus for JEE Main 2027 will be released by NTA.

Make sure the chapters you complete actually stay with you.
Peace!
